On the morning of May 19, Paula Southgate, Mayor of Hamilton, New Zealand, an international sister city of Chengdu, led a delegation to visit Chengdu University (CDU). CDU President Zhu Ming and Vice President  met with the delegation at the ASEAN VIP Hall.

Zhu Ming welcomed Paula Southgate and her delegation and reviewed the cooperation achievements among CDU, Hamilton, and the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in New Zealand over the past 20 years. He said that CDU has always adhered to international education, actively integrated into serving the country's "Belt and Road" initiative and regional development strategy, and shaped new advantages for high-quality development. He hoped that the two sides could take this meeting as an opportunity to promote the interconnection of educational resources between sister cities, further expand cooperation in areas such as teacher-student exchanges, joint scientific research, and cultural mutual learning, create a model benchmark for China-New Zealand higher education cooperation, and contribute educational strength to continuously enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand.

Paula Southgate highly praised CDU's achievements in running schools internationally. She said that since Hamilton and Chengdu established the sister city relationship in 2014, the two sides have cooperated closely in education, culture, and other fields. This visit is a continuation of the friendship between Chengdu and Hamilton and a pragmatic action to implement the 3rd New Zealand-China Mayoral Forum & Festival's theme of "Innovative Cooperation, Shared Future." She hoped that the two sides would jointly explore a diversified model of China-New Zealand educational cooperation based on the collaboration between Wintec and CDU, promote the implementation of projects such as mutual recognition of credits and joint training, and build a diverse growth platform for young people from both countries.

At CDU, the delegation visited the Overseas Education College and the Traditional Crafts Institute.

Relevant heads of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange participated in the activities.
